LGR Unfiltered: The Power of Honest Conversations

Last week, we launched the first session of LGR Unfiltered, bringing together colleagues from more than 30 local authorities for an honest conversation about one of the most significant periods of change many councils will ever experience.

The timing has proved particularly poignant.

Only days after our first session, Government announced a review of the Local Government Reorganisation programme, with proposals in many areas paused while ministers consider the future direction of reform. Like many across local government, we are now awaiting greater clarity about what comes next.

But whatever the future holds, our first conversation reinforced something important: peer learning needs to be at the heart of any modern local government model. The appetite for open discussion, shared learning and mutual support remains as strong as ever.

A Pause, Not a Goodbye

In light of the Government's announcement, we will pause further LGR Unfiltered sessions while we await greater clarity on the national direction of travel. However, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the success of this first session and thank everyone who contributed to it.

The generosity, honesty and willingness to support one another demonstrated everything that is best about the sector. At a time when uncertainty can easily dominate the conversation, it was a powerful reminder that our greatest strength is often our willingness to share experience and learn from each other.

Whatever happens next, those connections, relationships and conversations will continue to matter. And when the picture becomes clearer, we'll be ready to continue the discussion together.
